Whitey Ford was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 as a Player by the BBWAA receiving 77.8 percent of the vote that year. Whitey was a Pitcher who played in the majors for 16 years playing in 500 games for the New York Yankees. Whitey pitched left-handed in 498 games totalling 3,170 innings with 1,956 strikeouts and recorded a career ERA of 2.75. He batted 1,023 times from the left side with 177 hits, 3 home runs, 69 RBIs, and recorded a career batting average of .173. He was born on October 21, 1928 in New York, NY. His nickname is "The Chairman of the Board or Slick."
