Lucius Benjamin Appling
Luke Appling was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964 as a Player by the Run Off receiving 94.0 percent of the vote that year. Luke was a Shortstop and Third Baseman who played in the majors for 20 years playing in 2,422 games for the Chicago White Sox. He batted 8,856 times from the right side with 2,749 hits, 45 home runs, 1,116 RBIs, and recorded a career batting average of .310. He was born on April 2, 1907 in High Point, NC. His nickname was "Old Aches and Pains or Luscious Luke." Luke went to his Field of Dreams on January 3, 1991.
