Eddie Mathews was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978 as a Player by the BBWAA receiving 79.4 percent of the vote that year. Eddie was a Third Baseman and First Baseman who played in the majors for 17 years playing in 2,391 games. He batted 8,537 times from the left side with 2,315 hits, 512 home runs, 1,453 RBIs, and recorded a career batting average of .271. He was born on October 13, 1931 in Texarkana, TX. His nickname was "Eddie Mattress, Cap'n Eddie, Santa Barbara Bomber or Brookfield Bomber." Eddie went to his Field of Dreams on February 18, 2001.
